The laptop is working really well now that it got upgraded to seven hundredish MB of RAM. Enjoy the comic.

6/12/06

Thomar got a laptop! Unfortunately, it's a laptop with 256 MB of RAM. That's why there's no comic today. And Thomar doesn't really have an excuse for no comic Friday other than spending many hours practicing standing up and sitting down so that he could stand up, get a pretty folder, and sit down.

In lighter news, five pages got added to the Mario D20 System document. Mushrooms and shells, plus some spells inspired by the New Super Mario Bros.

6/7/06

New comic.

The New Super Mario Bros. game is nothing short of impressive. However, the gameplay is nearly identical to the original Mario Bros. game. Two buttons, jump and dash/fireball/shell. Oh, Nintendo didn't mention the wearable koopa shell in their marketing. Thomar found it to be the most enjoyable powerup in the entire game, even compared to the Mega Mushroom. Anyways, the game is very smooth, and takes advantage of mixing 3D and 2D graphics. The world layouts are a lot like the first Super Mario World game, with secret exits for most levels and even to different worlds, but they aren't as complex. Having beaten the game once in about six hours, Thomar can say that there's about twenty-five hours of challenging gameplay to get everything perfect.

6/5/06

Off-screen action is the only way to go when you've only got five poses.

Zelda D20 has released their Equipment kit. The lead was disappointed, but I personally think we've shaken things up enough to have laid the groundwork for something fresh and original.

6/3/06

When Thomar finally obtains a laptop, he shall be able to bend both time and space to get the comic done on time! Until then, the MD20 Document got an update. Added a template with a condensed format, lowest-level bread-and-butter monsters (the famous goombas and koopas), and a new chapter.

5/31/06

Thomar should be getting a laptop soon, which means he can get ahead on the webcomic. Oh, and check out the spiffy new verbals!

5/29/06

No, this is how she always fights.

Thomar went and saw X-Men III. Good movie, remember to sit through the credits to see the second ending. And don't bring some noisy immature ten year-olds like the people who sat behind Thomar did. Though it is awesomely epic and epically awesome, it's not quite as epic as anything like Kong or Lord of the Rings. Still, big epic battles are not what X-Men is about. It's also quite interesting to see virtual sets, used heavily in the last Star Wars movie, done right.

The play-by-post game started with two people. Thomar figures their chances of success are twice what Link's were. It's still open, just post on this thread.

5/26/06

Here's the comic.

5/24/06

Comic updates may be sporadic for a while. Thomar finally got a day job.

5/22/06

Thomar hasn't followed his written script for two weeks. It's turned out pretty well.

Thomar's making a last call for the LoZD20 play-by-post game, so go take a look if you're into that sort of thing.

5/19/06

Sprite comics are supposed to be easy...

This one is in .png format. No compression is a good thing.

5/17/06

Thomar is busy saving the world, but he managed to fit in time for today's comic.

5/15/06

Twenty down, a bajillion to go.

5/12/06

She said “yes”. Sorta.

And now the Kobold's Keep Webcomic would like to present, for your reading pleasure, a successful weekend cliffhanger.

Oh, and here's an interesting genre-bender that caught Thomar's eye.

5/10/06

One day, the Kobold's Keep Webcomic will rank among some other webcomics of obvious arrogance. Until then, support! See the Paypal button to the lower-right? See anything on the site you'd pay 5$ for?

Oh, and there's some really neat stuff coming out of E3. Thomar is especially excited by the Zelda gameplay footage and the ominous foreshadowing found in the Halo 3 trailer. And then there's some all-stars Hal sequel that looks like it can't take itself seriously.

Play-by-post, anyone? Thomar really needs players to test this stuff out. Please?

And no response after a week of subtle and not-so-subtle hints.

5/8/06

The website format has been updated! This is how it's going to look, and buttons and images are going to be next as soon as Thomar figures out how to get OpenOffice to do them. And the big thing at the top of the page goes away as soon as Thomar gets a response.

Today's webcomic's background took entirely too long to make.

5/5/06

Apparently Thomar's prom date didn't see the newspost for the comic Wednesday. Or she doesn't check as often as she says she does.

Thomar's starting a Zelda D20 game on the forums. It's the only play-by-post one currently running on the Internet, as far as we know.

EDIT: And the Mario D20 document just got updated. Check it out. Everything is now covered by the table.

5/3/06

First try at running with gag.

On a completely unrelated note, Thomar would like to know if Blair Rossi would like to go to prom with him.

5/1/06

In space, noone can tell you didn't put borders on all the speech balloons.

4/28/06

Transparency effects are fun! Thomar is making his earlier comment conditional. Junk mail is not welcome. Ever.

4/26/06

Thomar is lonely. Send him an email or something. And today's comic has 400% more footnotes than the leading brand!

4/24/06

Comicus Penguinicus! ZD20 is going to have an update next month, finalizing custom performances and feats.

4/21/06

Thomar has to plan these better so he can make weekend cliffhangers.

4/19/06

Would Thomar stoop to use shameless filler to get back on track for the webcomic? Of course he would! Everyone knows that filler is a healthy part of a balanced webcomic. But this isn't shameless filler. Nope. Not at all.

Thomar has only received one email so far about the Mario D20 System, so it's on hold right now for more important things (like Oblivion). Email him if you want something specific done, and he promises he'll do it. Unless it's some crazy request, like dancing the cancan in a tutu while singing inspire heroics in falsetto (not enough ranks in Perform yet).

4/18/06

Hard drive fixed. No worries.

4/14/06

And thus ends the one-week trial run of a semi-daily webcomic, with the ominously bad omen of Thomar's hard drive deciding to have a disk error.

4/12/06

Early update for comic. There should be a MD20 update next week.

Oblivion is really... Consoletastic. The control scheme is great for someone who has never played an RPG before, but Nethack's controls are faster-paced than this lumbering epic. However, the system is flexible and the world is wide-open. You'll spend an hour tweaking your character's facial features to be just right. You'll go back to old saves many times, just to see if you can do something better. You'll start the game over because you realize a skill trait that you didn't pick up on during the forgiving tutorial is really, really awesome. When it comes down to it, Oblivion is an RPG worth 60/70$ US.4/10/06

New comic.

4/7/06

Thomar is feeling much better now. A neat D&D tidbit has been added to the downloads section, so take a look at that. Next week, we'll be seeing if Thomar can crank out webcomics at a rate of three per week.

4/1/06

It's Thomar's birthday. Normally, this celebration would be accompanied by raucous partying and triple comic-posting, but Thomar got his tonsils out as an early birthday present.

Now, these party animals know how to celebrate April Fools'. Go celebrate with them and try not to let the mental image of Thomar's throat being a big scab dampen your celebratory spirit.

3/25/06

The website's back up, after a month of server transfer.

The Mario D20 Document got updated all over. The monsters chapter will be transferred over to the main document, and it will be using the new monster format from the MMIII.

And two new webcomics and a wallpaper over on the upper-right link.

2/2/06

Guns have been added to the MD20 Document just in time for the next MD20 playtest game on the boards.

01/13/06

Another comic! The process is still a little buggy, but it's reaching stability. These are also being mirrored on DeviantArt, so check that out. The MD20 Document has also gotten some fancy new height and weight tables, and it's all thanks to Thomar being smart enough to supervise playtesting.

01/04/06

The first Kobold's Keep Webcomic is up! And the website isn't working yet, but all signs point towards it being fully up in February.12/22/05

The Mario D20 documents have been updated. There are now Shys, the first Advanced class for casters, Elementalhand, and the framework for Pokemon as summonable monsters.

12/18/05

The site is hobbling along. After much frustration with webhosts and such, you can now view this website if you've performed the proper arcane rituals and blood sacrifices. But the Google Adbar stopped working... Anyways, a warm welcome to any Wizards.Community people who happen to wander in here.

Yeah, Thomar's doing a webcomic. No, it won't be up until the website is 100% working. Yeah, Thomar doesn't have the attention span for a webcomic. What's the twist? It's all-original.

11/19/05

And on the sixth day, Thomar made the website, and Thomar saw the website, and Thomar said it was pretty decent.
